Tell Me About Yourself

Jeff and Mike The Interview Guys show you how to avoid the number mistake people make when trying to answer the dreaded "Tell Me About Yourself" question.

For your convenience here is the transcript of the video:

MIKE
What exactly is this trap?  Well, people interpret the question as an invitation to open up a casual conversation with the hiring manager, which usually starts with them offering up some personal details.

JEFF
Here's the thing folks, and we can't stress this enough.  They don't want to know where you're from, our what your hobbies are, or if you have a pet.  They really just want to know what you're going to do for them.

MIKE
You need to answer "Tell Me About Yourself" by highlighting one or more of your strengths and abilities.  Some examples of these strengths and abilities might include: multi-tasking, decision making, being organized, being a leader...you get my drift.

JEFF
You also need to support these strengths with real-life examples for your past.  Generally, these would be from your previous jobs, or if you're new to the workforce and don't have much experience, you can still use examples from your other experiences, including education, volunteer work, sports teams, or other activities.

MIKE
Sounds easy enough, but you wouldn't believe how many people fall into this trap, and here is the worst part.  This is almost always the first question you will be asked, and if you answer it incorrectly, you've taken yourself out of the running in the first few seconds of your interview!

JEFF
But don't worry, because the Interview Guys are here to help.  We've created a free special report that shows you exactly how to answer this question in detail and gives you an Interview Guys certified trap-proof example answer.

MIKE
Not only that, but it also shows you how to create perfect interview answers to every interview question and sidestep any trap that the hiring manager can set for you.
